Abstract : The focus of this research is related to the structure of the breasting dolphin which is part of a
dolphin pier. Breasting Dolphin as part of the leading structure of the pier serves as a place for ships to
rest. So that the breeding dolphin is designed to be able to withstand a large enough lateral load from the
load due to berthing of the ship. Then the structural elements to be studied are related to the foundation of
the pile structure.
The purpose of this study was to obtain the results of the behavioral analysis of the breasting dolphin pile
to determine the effect of pile diameter, number and arrangement of piles, and the effect of location in pile
arrangement on the resistance of vertical piles under lateral loading. This research was conducted for the
existing environmental conditions at the TBBM Wayame location, Ambon including soil data with
homogeneous sand soil characteristics. Modeling scenarios were carried out for different diameters and

number and arrangement of piles. The diameters of the poles used are 559 mm, 660 mm and 762 mm, with
the arrangement of the poles used are 3×3, 3×4 and 4×4. Then the level of loading is based on the capacity
of the ship used of 1000DWT, 3000DWT, 6000DWT and 10000DWT with berthing conditions in closed
waters. The analysis was performed by using the structural modeling software SAP2000 and software
LPILE to model soil-structure interaction.
The results showed that the structure of the breasting dolphin which is subjected to lateral loads provides
a moment on the axis perpendicular to the direction of loading. The moment has an effect on the axial
response of the pile. The poles in the first row are in tension, while the poles in the back row are under
compression. At a certain level of loading, the ultimate load of the pile experiencing tension affects the
axial soil bearing capacity. The UCR values for each row have different value variations, with the back
row having the largest UCR followed by the third row and the first row and second row having almost the
same UCR, with the first row having a slightly larger UCR. Variations in UCR in a pile arrangement are
influenced by variations in the axial load experienced by the pile (compression or tension). Lateral loading
on the vertical pile group causes the pile to experience a large enough deflection and a moment that causes
failure of the structure so that the vertical pile group does not have a good enough lateral resistance. The
addition of the number of piles and the diameter of the pile is one way that can be done to increase the
lateral resistance of the vertical pile group.
