Abstract: Along with economic growth, the number of ports’ traffic, especially containers, is also increasing. This phenomenon creates the needs to increase the port’s capacity and area in order to keep up on receiving and transporting these goods. One example to illustrate this case is Tanjung Priok Port. Thus, in order to solve this problem, the Gorvernment atempted to build a new port, which is called Cilamaya Port. Unfortunately, this plan is then cancelled for various reasons. As a replacement, the Government is considering six new locations to build a new port, one of which is Eretan District in Indramayu. In this study, an analysis on the aspects regarding Eretan Port, such as Port’s orientation and traffic safety, safety in loading and unloading activity, and its cost, will take place. These aspects will be analysed based on hydrodynamic conditions such as wave and current that will be processed using SMS 8.1 software, easiest channel’s access, and its investment cost calculation. After the best orientation has been chosen, a layout for a port capable of accomodating containers can then be designed.
Key words: port, container, SMS 8.1, layout, Eretan.
