Abstract: Indonesia is a maritime country with a long coastline of 99.093 kilometer (BIG,2016). But some regions have problem with their coastlines, one of them is Balongan which has abrasion problem along their coastline. To overcome the problem, breakwaters were built serial along the affected area. Breakwater is designed based on the recommendation from Shore Protection Manual II consisting of core and armor layer with toe protection. The process of design begins with environmental data processing including Dishidros’s tidal data processing, NOAA’s wind data processing, hindcasting, wave transformation modeling with delft3D and soil data interpretation from boring log and result of laboratory test to get design parameter. Then, breakwater dimension including crest elevation, crest width, core and armour unit weight, thickness of armor layer and toe protection is determined. The stability of the breakwater is analyzed for shear failure using PLAXIS software with recommended safety factor value of 2. If the safety factor have not been fulfilled, soil reinforcement system is designed using pile matress bamboo. Although the soil reinforcement can increase bearing capacity of soil, the soil settlement due to the breakwater loading still occurs. Thus, this final project also calculated the amount and time of soil settlement until the soil layer no longer decreased.
